Census 2001 Standard Tables

We are pleased to announce that 2001 Census Standard Tables for areas in England and Wales are now available through Nomis. Standard Tables are the most detailed set of Census statistics for local areas — wards and higher level areas (but not output areas). They include topics such as ethnic group and workplace population which are not available in the Census Areas Statistics (CAS).

Access to the data is available from the 2001 Census section of out site, although experienced users can access the data sets directly from the Census theme in the wizard/advanced query:

Census data for Scotland are available from the SCROL web site, and for Northern Ireland from the NISRA web site.

The Census data on Nomis complements that available through the Neighbourhood Statistics Service (NeSS). NeSS provides access to Census Univariate Statistics and Key Statistics and Nomis provides access to the multi-dimensional tables from the Census Area Statistics (CAS) and Standard Tables (ST).

Future developments

The next Census development on Nomis will be ST Theme Tables and CAS Theme Tables. The table outlines for these can be downloaded from the Census 2001 specifications section of the National Statistics website.

Following the item in the January newsletter about putting Census Special Workplace Statistics (SWS) on Nomis, we received many expressions of interest for these data at local authority and ward level. So we will go ahead with this development as soon as we have capacity in our schedule.
