Government Office Regions renamed to Regions
As a result of the 2010 Comprehensive Spending Review the Government Offices for the Regions (GORs) closed at the end of March 2011.
However, there is still a requirement to maintain a regional level geography for statistical purposes. To meet this need the former GORs will be retained as statistical areas but will be referred to simply as Regions. They will retain the names, codes and boundaries of the former GORs. This has been ratified by the Government Statistical Service Regional and Geography Committee.
On Nomis this means that the government office region geography now appears as Regions under the geography option in advanced and wizard queries. All data that was available for GORs will remain available and continue to be updated but under the new name.
