Claimant Count Statistics and Universal Credit

ONS are consulting users on the measurement of the claimant count following the introduction of Universal Credit in October 2013. The consultation which opened at the start of October runs until 23 November 2012.

This consultation document contains:

  • a brief background to Universal Credit and its impact on benefit and Claimant Count statistics,
  • emerging proposals around the presentation of benefit statistics, and
  • detailed proposals around the production and dissemination of Claimant Count statistics following the introduction of Universal Credit.

This consultation does not look in detail at other aspects of Universal Credit statistics. This will be subject of a second consultation by DWP at a later date.
