Comparing 2011 Census with Annual Population Survey outputs
On 11 December 2012, ONS published 2011 Census Key Statistics for Local Authorities in England and Wales. This included the first estimates from the 2011 Census of key labour market indicators.
Alongside this ONS produced a paper which examined the differences in labour market indicators between the 2011 Census and the Labour Force Survey (LFS), setting out potential reasons why these differences occur.
The LFS is the survey that is used to produce the regular estimates of key labour market indicators each month. It is also the basis used for creating the Annual Population Survey (APS) datasets. Therefore the information in this paper is also relevant to understanding the differences between 2011 Census and APS estimates that are available on Nomis and used as the source for many of the table in the Nomis local authority profiles.
The paper "A comparison of the 2011 Census and the Labour Force Survey (LFS) labour market indicators" is available from the ONS website.
