Qualifications by Industry
First of all I would like to say as a new user how valuable this data source is in my role in education! It would be even more valuable if we could access data which showed us the level of qualifications by industry initially at a regional level e.g. south east but ideally at a local authority level. Is this possible?

Martin,

The 2001 Census Standard Tables data set includes table S131 on Sex and industry by highest level of qualification for the workplace population. I cannot see any equivalent table for the residence population. ONS Census Customer Services will be able to confirm this - contact them at:

Thanks for this. I would say however that the emphasis on my role is for local market intelligence which is timely. Data from 2001 is just not timely and a breakdown for the whole country is not local. Please can you add my requets to your wish list as I am sure I am not the only educational institution which would find this information useful?
Thanks

Martin,

The biggest problem for getting up-to-date figures at local authority level will be the sample size limitations of the Annual Population Survey. You may be able to request the data you need from the APS/LFS data service at ONS and they would advise on any sample-size issues. Their contact details are:
