about us

Nomis is a web-based database of labour market statistics based in Durham, a University town and Cathedral City which, along with Durham Castle are part of a World Heritage Site, which puts us in the same league as the Great Wall of China and the Pyramids.

Nomis is run by the University of Durham on behalf of the Office for National Statistics. First launched in 1981, Nomis houses an extensive range of government statistical information on the UK labour market including Employment, Unemployment, Earnings, Labour Force Survey and Jobcentre Plus vacancies.

Sinclair Sutherland

Sinclair Sutherland Project Leader, joining in 1989 after graduating from Durham University, Sinclair has overall management of the Nomis team and ensures the smooth running of the Nomis contract.

Dr Mark Ireland

Dr Mark Ireland Systems Manager, having overall operational management of the Nomis computer systems, Mark joined in 1990 after completing his thesis in 'The Behaviour and Ecology of the Mink'.

Peter Henderson

Peter Henderson Systems Programmer, joined Nomis in 1996 from the University of Durham IT Service, graduate from Durham University. Peter is responsible for development of the Nomis web site and two young children.

Peter Dodds

Peter Dodds Training course leader, responsible for the development and delivery of on-site and off-site training courses. Peter was a founding member of the Nomis team in 1981.

Spencer Hedger

Spencer Hedger Analyst Programmer, working on the Nomis web interface and databases. Member of the Nomis team since graduating with first-class honours from the University of Northumbria in 1999.
