Today we have released new figures provided by ONS for Scotland Council Area Estimates for years Mid-2002 through to Mid-2010. Estimates for people aged 80 to 90 plus are most affected.

The impact on the overall population figures will be very small, with a difference of at most thirty people (in 2006). Some population estimates for ages and age groups below 80 have small negligible differences, caused entirely by rounding adjustments. The changes will impact those using estimates for 80+ year olds between 2002 and 2010, particularly those using estimates on a Scotland-wide or council level.

This was due to an issue with the method of rebasing the population estimates using the 2011 Census results. Further details of the issue can be found from National Records Scotland

We apologies for any inconvenience caused.
