New 2023 and revised 1997-2022 estimates released

The regional gross disposable household income (GDHI) dataset was updated on 17 October 2025 with new 2023 estimates and revised 1997 to 2022 estimates.

Data are available by component of income for countries, regions, local authorities, and ITL 2025 levels 1 to 3. Data are published as totals in millions and per head of the population. The dataset can be found in the Regional Accounts folder in the query data tool:

Background

Gross disposable household income (GDHI) is the amount of money that all of the individuals in the household sector have available for spending or saving after income distribution measures (for example, taxes, social contributions and benefits) have taken effect. GDHI is a concept which is seen to reflect the 'material welfare' of the household sector.

It should be noted that regional GDHI estimates relate to totals for all individuals within the household sector for a region rather than to an average household or family unit. The household sector comprises all individuals in an economy, including people living in traditional households as well as those living in institutions such as retirement homes and prisons. The sector also includes sole trader enterprises (the self-employed).

Further details are available in the Regional gross disposable household income, UK: 1997 to 2023 statistical bulletin.
