The quarterly update of DWP benefits datasets took place on 16 March 2011 with the release of new data for August 2010. Details of the datasets updated in this release are given at the bottom of this article. For background information about these datasets and appropriate use see the article Overview of DWP benefits data on Nomis.

New Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) datasets. Employment and Support Allowance replaced Incapacity Benefit and Income Support that is paid because of an illness or disability for new claimants from 27 October 2008.  Further information about ESA is available on the Directgov website. Two new Nomis datasets available in wizard/advanced queries provide information about ESA claimants:

  • benefit claimants - employment and support allowance. Use this dataset to access a detailed anlysis for local authorities and larger geographies.

  • benefit claimants - employment and support allowance for small area. Use this data set to access summary data for 2003 wards and super output areas.

Accessing the data: Headline working age client group figures for an area are available from out-of-work benefits section in area profiles. Choose either the local authority profile, parliamentary constituency profile, or ward profile depending on the type of area for which you want figures.

To access the full datasets in advanced query use the links in the list below.
