The monthly update of the claimant count series took place at 09:30 on 15 October 2014 with the release of new data for September 2014. The full list of updates is given below.

Starting with the September 2014 figures the building blocks used to construct geographic areas for the Claimant Count datasets have been updated. Geographic areas for previous dates were built from 2001 Census output areas on a best fit basis. From the Sep 2014 data the claimant count series use 2011 Census output areas to create all geographies in line with the ONS geography policy.

it is not expected that this change will cause significant effect on figures for higher level geographies such as local authorities and Westminster constituencies. However, there are changes to small area geographies:

  • geographies that will no longer be update include: 2003 CAS wards, 1991 wards, 2001 LSOAs/MSOAs, 2011 Welsh index of multiple deprivation; 2010 English index of multiple deprivation.
  • new geographies: 2011 census frozen wards, 2013 electoral ward, 2011 LSOAs/MSOAs.
