Census 2001 on Nomis Standard Tables, Census Area Statistics (CAS), and standard and CAS Theme Tables for England and Wales are available through Nomis.

You can download Census data either as full tables or individual counts from within tables by using the links below. If you are new to Nomis, we recommend you use the wizard query.

Standard Tables (ST)
The most detailed statistics for local areas. Presented as 129 tables for wards and higher areas; includes topics such as ethnicity not available in the CAS. A document showing outline versions of all tables is available here (pdf, 755Kb).

Theme Tables
Contain information on a range of subjects about a particular theme combined in single tables for ease of reference. Presented as 20 tables for wards and higher areas. A document showing outline versions of all tables is available here (pdf, 209Kb).

Census Area Statistics (CAS)
Available for the smallest areas (output areas). Presented as 80 tables for output areas upwards. A document showing outline versions of all tables is available here (pdf, 215Kb).

CAS Theme Tables
Contain information on a range of subjects about a particular theme combined into single tables. Presented as 9 tables for output areas and above. A document showing outline versions of all tables is available here (pdf, 71Kb).

Commissioned Tables
In addition to the standard census outputs, ONS also provides a service to produce user defined tabulations of census data. When tables are commissioned, they become available to all. See the news article for further details.
